One of my favorite stops in Catania is the iconic fish market. It’s not only a favorite for the fresh fish, but for the experience itself. On Monday through Saturday mornings, you can both hear and smell the market before you ever see it. Located directly behind the Baroque Amenano Fountain in Elephant Square (near the Duomo), La Pescheria is open from 7:30ish to noon-ish. If you are in Catania, I highly recommend a visit even if you aren’t planning to buy anything. From fresh caught (this morning) seafood to just picked fruits and vegetables, the market has it all. While I do love the food available there, I also love the people. I feel like there is no better place to feel immersed in Sicily than walking around this market.
